Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) is a non-profit organization that caters to the needs of children in and around Chow Kit


The children’s center ‘Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak’ caters to children from the age of 7-12 and our teenage center known as ‘KL Krash Pad’ welcomes youths from the ages of 13 to 21. All the centres provide food, age-appropriate facilities, and set of programmes designed based on 5 Pillars of the followings: Education, Psycho-Social, Sports & Health, Spirituality, and Recreational.


We have an array of activities offered such as games, art classes, psychosocial activities, recreational activities, motivational talks, sports activities and educational programs. YCK team ( fondly known as YCK Family ) aspires to tackle issues affecting the local community such as education, foster care, documentation, skill building, adoption, homelessness, abuse and many more.

“I’m currently teaching at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. I’ve also previously taught rural children living in poverty and Orang Asli children in Malaysia; street children and refugee children in Nepal; and migrant and refugee children in the UK


I have done research/ doing research with refugee and migrant children, OA children, urban children and youth living in poverty in Malaysia, and gender variant adolescents in South India (this research is part of my PhD thesis on transgender people and schooling) “

Tasnim Jannat Nijhu is currently doing her Ph.D. in Education at Taylor's University, Malaysia. Her research focuses on marginalized groups of children. More specifically, she aims to understand the educational needs of children of sex workers. Tasnim currently working on different projects including designing a curriculum for out-of-school children and youth in Malaysia, developing home learning packs for children with autism.

  • Lack of internet connection (for learner as may not have connection from home)

  • Incomplete curriculum (working with Taylor’s) 

  • Lack of devices (2022 reported 20 teens receiving laptops)
